Court awards ambulance refurbishment contract; EMS promotions approved

McCreary County Fiscal Court on March 13 accepted a $148,404.73 bid from ETA of Deep Gap, North Carolina, to refurbish the county’s oldest ambulance and approved two personnel moves in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department.
EMS Director Jimmy Barnett brought the single bid to the court; a magistrate moved to accept the ETA bid and the court approved the contract award by roll call. No competing bids were in the record. Barnett and other members said the cost reflects rising prices for ambulance refurbishment compared with prior years.
The court also approved moving part-time EMT Cameron Morgan to full-time EMT at a pay rate of $13.50 per hour to fill the position left by EMT Rebecca Hoff. The court approved promoting full-time EMT Mike Meadows to AEMT at a pay rate of $15 per hour. Both personnel actions were requested by EMS Director Barnett and approved by unanimous roll-call votes.
Barnett reported EMS had 401 total runs last month and brought in about $160,006.30 in revenue. Dispatch (9-1-1) recorded 52 calls last month; Barnett said vehicles, equipment and the EMS building were serviced and maintained.
Court members recorded no conditions attached to the ambulance contract award at the meeting. The court did not at this session specify timelines for the ambulance work beyond accepting the bid and authorizing the contract award.
