Estill County staff reported plans to set up a sheriff's-office mobile app to distribute emergency notifications and local resource information, and said the app could be ready in the next few months.
The county staff member said the app would offer push notifications that are not filtered by social media algorithms, and could be promoted with posters and QR codes placed at businesses and public locations. The app is intended to include contact numbers for local offices, addiction recovery resources and instructions for after-hours procedures such as filing emergency protective orders (EPOs).
County staff described the app as a way to reduce paperwork and speed access to documents now provided by email, print or fax. The staff member said new access for commonwealth attorneys and "power researchers" will let outside users retrieve information online instead of requesting printed copies.
The report noted that after-hours EPO filings currently require the sheriff's office to help complete and submit paperwork to the judge; the app would provide information explaining that process and list circuit clerk hours for daytime filings.
No formal vote accompanied the report. County staff said they are "working on getting that set up" over the next couple of months and invited questions from the panel.
