Solid waste director reports heavy litter and tire pickups, landfill tonnage totals

Lance Morning, the county’s solid waste director, briefed the court on operations and litter‑removal activity during January and February.
Morning said winter weather forced temporary closures of the lot on several days. For January he reported loads to the landfill totaling 65.2 tons and one metal load of 3.95 tons; in February he reported 93.35 tons to the landfill and three metal loads totaling 9.61 tons, for more than 100 tons between the two months.
Road crews and volunteers walked pickup routes: Morning reported about 10 miles of roadway in January with 38 bags of litter and four tires collected, and about 20.7 miles in February with 91 bags of litter, 14 tires and seven pieces of furniture collected. He urged residents to avoid dumping and asked for cooperation to keep drainage tiles clear of trash such as toys and tires so water can flow in drainage tiles.
Court members thanked Morning and approved acceptance of the waste report as part of routine business; no additional county funding or policy changes were made at the meeting.
