Ambulance authority reports increased calls; county finalizing unified medical direction

Kevin Callahan, director referenced as representing ambulance and authority operations, told the court the county’s ambulance service responded to 646 emergencies in February and 1,086 calls for the first two months of the year, slightly above last year’s pace. He said EMS vehicles traveled 17,077 miles in February.
Callahan said the county is finalizing agreements between county and city fire departments so Dr. John Mayo will serve as medical director across those agencies. He said the arrangement is intended to create a continuum of care and consistent patient care guidelines from initial fire or police response through EMS arrival.
Callahan also noted county staff and mutual‑aid deployments to state emergency operations activities and damage assessments in other counties after flooding; he said Greenup County conducted joint public damage assessments for roads and infrastructure following recent flooding and is awaiting notice on public assistance eligibility.
Court members praised the coordination among sheriff, fire and EMS agencies; no formal vote was required on the operational reports.
