County court endorses Riverport development; project expected to create 30 jobs

The Greenup County Fiscal Court voted to contribute $2,500 toward a joint project to extend a 2‑inch water and sewer tap at the Greenup‑Boyd Riverport in the city of Portsmouth/Portland area, joining Boyd County and the city in the cost share.
Scott Martin of the Northeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and Hunter Boyd of the Northeast Kentucky Economic Development Authority described the Riverport plan. Hunter Boyd said the county, Boyd County and the city will each contribute $2,500 toward a new water and sewer tap at the Riverport.
The court was told Strawser Construction, a company active in Kentucky in recent years, plans to build a 9,500‑square‑foot building on about 4 acres at the Riverport in the Wharton area. The project is expected to be complete between October and November and to create about 30 jobs.
Bobby Reynolds and other local officials said a groundbreaking is planned in April; court members noted the project will not start until after July 1 because of fiscal‑year budgeting.
Ernie moved to authorize the county’s $2,500 payment to the city of Portland for the tap; Lee seconded and the court approved the motion.
