Board approves resolution to eliminate petty cash, retain limited change funds

The Snohomish School District Board of Directors approved Resolution O225 on Feb. 12 to eliminate petty cash accounts across the district and to update the district’s use of change funds.
Tom explained the difference during the meeting: petty cash is money a school might use to make small purchases (for example, paper) and is typically kept in a safe, whereas a change fund is cash kept at a location such as the aquatic center so staff can provide change to customers and must balance nightly. Tom said procurement cards have largely replaced petty cash. Board members were told that the district now has three schools plus food services and the aquatic center holding change funds (five total), and that the resolution eliminates petty cash but retains necessary change funds.
A motion to approve the resolution was moved, seconded and passed by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the public transcript.
