The presenter said, "In total, we have $11,011 of donations today."
The board also presented recognition awards: a district Impact Award to bus driver Mister James Conte for his response during a bus accident at Lecanto Primary; a Purple Heart display created by vocational welding students and presented by Commander Hunt of the Purple Heart Association; and teacher awards including Billy Bass (Fort Cooper Daughters of the American Revolution outstanding teacher of American history), Mister Donovan (VFW Florida Teacher of the Year, Lecanto High) and Cyndal Houtz (Doctor Tom and Betty Lawrence American History Teacher Award).
The district also announced its Golden Citrus Scholars and said the celebratory school bus for scholars will be air‑conditioned this year and will tour the county on Saturday, May 3. The district thanked the Citrus County Education Foundation and local media partners including the Tampa Bay Times and The Chronicle for in‑kind support of classroom programs.
