District staff explained the line item on the agenda mistakenly listed a lower hourly rate; the contract under consideration pays $80 per hour for certified orientation and mobility services. Assistant superintendent and staff described the error as an oversight during agenda preparation and said the corrected figure applies for the remainder of the school year.
"We had the contract come back with the $80 in it, but we had pre, you know, put in entered some information and we based it on a teacher's salary as opposed to the $80 per hour," a staff member said during the discussion. After recalculation the cost for the remainder of the year increased from about $1,400 to roughly $7,800, staff reported.
Mister Dodd moved the contract approval and Mister Frank seconded; the board voted to approve the contract unanimously.

District staff said the contract will provide students with training in campus navigation, street crossing and use of assistive devices.
