The Batavia City Council on March 17 unanimously confirmed Andrea Pazara as the city’s director of public works.
Mayor (name not specified) announced the appointment in remarks describing Pazara’s years of service to the city and asked the council to confirm. Alderman Sova moved to appoint Andrea Pazara; Alderman Wolf seconded. The roll call vote was 12 yes, 0 no, 2 absent, and the motion was approved.
The mayor praised Pazara’s track record in resolving neighborhood engineering issues and responding to stormwater problems, and he thanked outgoing Public Works Director Gary Holm for his service. “She really has, I think, over time, certainly shown … a lot of creative energies as far as overcoming some neighborhood squabbles and issues that really needed some serious engineering,” the mayor said as he introduced the appointment.
Andrea Pazara addressed the council after the vote. Pazara noted she has worked for the city for 16 years and said she is "super excited to start this and very honored that I was selected and grateful for what the future brings." She thanked Gary Holm for his leadership and said she plans to work with the department’s superintendents and staff to advance ongoing projects.
Council members offered quick support during the roll call and the mayor said the appointment comes with “a tremendous amount of confidence.” The city did not record any separate amendment or condition attached to the appointment at the meeting.
The vote means Pazara will assume the duties of director of public works; the transcript records internal promotions in the department announced later in the meeting (see administrator’s report).
