Wayne County moves to sell three tax-foreclosed properties; upset-bid process next step

The Wayne County Board of Commissioners declared three tax-foreclosed parcels surplus and approved the offers the county received, the board said at its March 18 session.
Staff described the properties and the offers: 113 North Cornelius Street had an offer of $1,635; 3228 Central Heights Road had an offer of $5,000; and 426 Piedmont Airline Road had an offer of $10,311 submitted by Christopher Jones. Staff said North Cornelius Street and Piedmont Airline Road are jointly held by Wayne County and the City of Goldsboro; Central Heights Road is county-only. After approval the county will advertise the sales for upset bids and then route any required approvals to the city for its concurrence on jointly held parcels.
Commissioners asked staff about proximity to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and described conditions at the sites — staff said many of the properties nearby are vacant or contain older, abandoned single-wide trailers. The board noted subsequent steps include the upset-bid advertising process and city review where applicable.
The board approved the surplus declarations and the offers; staff will proceed with advertising for upset bids and city coordination as required by the county's process.
