The Village Board of Arlington Heights on March 17 unanimously concurred in the mayor's appointments of Alina Patel and Maria Georgakopoulos to the Youth Commission, and both appointees took the oath of office during the meeting.
Trustee Schwingbeck moved to concur in the mayor's appointment of Alina Patel to the Youth Commission for a term ending April 30, 2026; Trustee Shirley seconded the motion. The board approved the motion by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Patel then came forward, recited the oath of office and signed the oath form as administered by President Hayes.
Later in the meeting Trustee Lebeds moved to concur in the mayor's appointment of Maria Georgakopoulos to the Youth Commission for a term ending April 30, 2026; Trustee Grassi seconded. The board approved that motion by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Georgakopoulos was sworn in and presented with a village logo pin.
President Hayes praised the appointees during the ceremonial portion of the meeting, saying the new members were "some really exceptional young ladies" and encouraging them as they represent the community on the Youth Commission.
Both appointments were processed as concurrences with the mayor's selections; the motions were made, seconded and approved by the board during the New Business portion of the March 17 agenda. Each new member's term was stated on the record as ending April 30, 2026.
