Residents ask commissioners to correct North Hudson Lane road designation; public hearing set

Property owners on North Hudson Lane asked Greene County commissioners to correct a road designation that they say extends county road status onto private, family-owned land.
Sheryl Abraham and Mike Hudson presented a signed petition asking the county to change the state-recorded road length from 1,320 feet to 607 feet measured from the center of Gardner Road and to include an additional 50 feet beyond the last mailbox to allow mail carriers to turn around. They said the current 1,320-foot designation extends into grassy private property and crosses family-owned land that has been in their family for decades.
"We just want it back the way it was originally," Abraham said, adding that property owners have no plans to alter land use and that the expanded designation permits access across private property the owners do not intend to open to the public.
County staff told the board a public hearing is required for a change in road designation. The county attorney said he would review the materials and prepare an ordinance for the board to consider. The commissioners set a public hearing for April 15 and asked staff to prepare the required notice and ordinance draft.
No final change to the road’s legal status was recorded at the meeting; the process will proceed through the public-hearing and ordinance steps required by law.
