Court approves FFA courthouse lawn use in August and a tractor-pull event at county firegrounds

The Nicholas County Fiscal Court approved two separate requests to use county property for community events: a Farm-to-Table event run by the local FFA on the courthouse lawn in August, and a Truck & Tractor Pull at the county firegrounds in April.

The court granted Madison White and the FFA permission to hold the Farm-to-Table event on the courthouse lawn on Aug. 3, 2025, with a rain date listed in their request. The event organizer asked to use the lawn rather than the street; the court approved the request by unanimous voice vote.

Separately, the court approved a request to hold a Truck & Tractor Pull run by a regional pulling association that plans several events in nearby counties. The organizer told the court the group has roughly seven association members, four from Nicholas County and three from neighboring Bracken County, and that the fire board supports the event. The court listed conditions: provision of a letter of support from the fire board, proof of insurance, and that local fire and EMS coverage required by state rules be arranged at the organizer’s expense. The organizer agreed to a $1,000 fee for use of the grounds; the court said proceeds from concessions would go to the fire board and that part of the fee would cover the cost of providing a third ambulance at the event so county emergency coverage would not be diminished.

Why it matters: Both approvals allow community events to proceed but require insurance and operational arrangements to ensure public safety and to avoid impairing regular emergency coverage.

The court moved and approved both requests in short votes during the meeting; staff were instructed to collect the fire board letter and insurance certificate before issuance of a formal permit or executed agreement.
