Tipp City Council on March 17 approved a motion authorizing the police chief and city manager to sign a temporary alcohol permit for the Canal Music Fest and authorized the city manager to enter into an agreement with the Tipp City Area Arts Council to permit alcohol at the event.
Lynn Shirk, co-chair of the Canal Music Fest marketing committee, spoke during the motions item and asked for volunteers to staff the event and help with tasks such as fence setup and trash pickup. “We are all looking for volunteers. So if you know of anyone, especially younger people that would like to get some volunteer hours done ahead of time, that would be wonderful,” Shirk said.
Shirk also asked whether festival organizers could arrange for advertising on a downtown billboard and invited councilmembers to a chamber after‑hours fine art exhibition connected to the festival. She described the art exhibition as having more than 65 entries and said the fine art exhibition and related events will take place at the Tip Center.
Councilmember votes were recorded and the motion carried. Staff said Lynn could follow up with City Clerk Janice after the meeting to discuss billboard placement and coordination.
The permit approval allows the city to complete the administrative steps necessary for alcohol service at the Canal Music Fest; staff present characterized the request as routine.
