The Tuscaloosa City Council Finance Committee on an unanimous voice vote approved two District 2 disbursements totaling $4,000 to local community organizations.
Councilwoman Howard moved to approve a $2,000 disbursement from District 2 improvement funds to support the Grama Festival at the River Market, and the committee approved the item after a brief discussion about event dates. "This is a free event to the community, and they offer a lot, a lot of activities for the family, for children," Councilwoman Howard said, urging the funding to encourage turnout.
The committee then approved a second District 2 disbursement of $2,000 for child abuse prevention services, described by the sponsor as a local organization that delivers anti-abuse education to students in the city school system.
Both items were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The approvals were routine budget disbursements from the District 2 improvement allocation and do not create ongoing obligations beyond the approved one-time payments.
