The Chippewa County Board on March 11 approved Resolution 7-25, authorizing payment of a liability claim filed by Caitlin Witt for vehicle damage related to a December snowplow incident.
Deb Blevins, corporation counsel legal assistant, told the board that Witt filed the claim on Jan. 10 and that the claimant— insurer, WIMIC, advised the county it is liable. Blevins said total damage to the vehicle, including a rental, exceeds $12,000.
Supervisor Bergeron moved to approve the resolution and Supervisor Lynn seconded. Board members asked procedural questions about how claims are handled; Blevins explained that claims are forwarded to the county— insurer, which recommends acceptance or denial, and the county typically follows the insurer— recommendation.
The board voted to approve the resolution to pay the claim.
