Sarpy County approves five-year interlocal mutual-aid agreement for metro law enforcement

The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners on March 18 approved a five-year interlocal cooperation agreement to provide mutual aid across metro-area law enforcement agencies.
Chief Deputy Jacob Betsworth summarized the agreement, saying it has been in place since 1997 and covers shared resources and cooperation among municipalities and law enforcement partners including Bellevue, La Vista, Papillion, Ralston, Valley, Waterloo, Bennington, Omaha’s Boys Town, Sarpy County and Douglas County. "This interlocal agreement has been in place since 1997," Betsworth said. "It allows for mutual aid between all the law enforcement agencies in the Metro area."
The resolution (recorded as resolution 2025-558) was introduced by the sheriff’s office and approved by motion of Commissioner Kelly with a second by Commissioner Burmeister. The motion carried unanimously (5-0).
Why it matters: formal mutual-aid agreements clarify authority and resource-sharing during incidents that require multi-agency response.
The board entered no additional conditions on the agreement during the public meeting and moved on to other business after the vote.
