The Galloway Township Board of Education on March 17 accepted with regret letters of intent to retire from five district employees and, following an executive session on personnel, voted to terminate one employee effective March 18, 2025.
The board accepted retirements listed by the administration under agenda item 10.1. The employees named and their years of service as read into the record were: Christine Burgess, director of student services for general education (7 years in the district); Joan Marie Esposito, GTMS teaching and learning facilitator (19 years); Tina Gomez, GTMS world language teacher (12 years); Emery Keeler, Reeds Road teacher (32 years); and Kara Manzo, Reeds Road teacher (29 years). The board approved the retirements by roll-call vote.
Later in the meeting the board entered executive session to discuss personnel matters. After reconvening, the board "entertained a motion to terminate the employment of employee number 2,043 for the reasons as discussed in executive session effective, immediately, which is tomorrow, 03/18/2025." A motion was made and seconded and a roll-call vote was recorded; the motion to terminate employee number 2043 passed (vote recorded as unanimous in the transcript roll call).
Distinctions: The transcript records that the termination motion followed an executive-session discussion of personnel; the board stated that executive-session matters will be disclosed to the public when the matter has been settled unless prohibited by law. The meeting minutes and any personnel records required by statute will be the official public record of the action.
