MPS committee adopts updated student nutrition and wellness policy including USDA nondiscrimination statement

The Long-Range Planning Committee of the Milwaukee Public Schools approved revisions to Administrative Policy and Procedure 4.07, Student Nutrition and Wellness, including addition of the required U.S. Department of Agriculture nondiscrimination statement, after a brief presentation by district staff and no public testimony.
The administration framed the change as part of the board’s regular five-year policy review under Board Governance Policy 2.11. Dr. Brenda Kesselius, Superintendent, told the committee the redline draft adds the required USDA nondiscrimination language and asked the committee to adopt the attached revisions. Renee Slotin Beauchamp, Director of Nutrition Services, attended to answer technical questions. No members of the public registered to speak on the item.
Director Garcia moved to accept the administration’s recommended redline changes to Policy and Procedure 4.07; the committee recorded a roll call vote with Directors Garcia, Gokul Gandhi, Jackson, Herndon and Chair Zomberg voting aye and the motion passing 5-0.
The approved changes will be incorporated into the district policy manual as part of the ongoing Neola policy review process. The committee did not add further substantive amendments during the meeting.
The action completes the administration’s requested update for this policy cycle; staff will implement the changes through the district’s policy publication process.
