Commission approves $75,000 for Natural Resources cold shop storage improvements

The Pennington County Commission voted March 18 to authorize Buildings and Grounds to use up to $75,000 from accumulated building funds to install a concrete floor, add insulated walls with a thermal barrier and purchase heating equipment for a Natural Resources cold storage building.
Davis Purcell, director of Buildings and Grounds, said the shop is a roughly 30-by-70-foot metal building with a gravel floor; the requested work includes a concrete slab ($30,515), insulation and thermal barrier ($30,281) and gas service and heaters. Scott Guffey, Natural Resources director, said the space is used for routine maintenance and small repairs on ATVs and other county machines and that a concrete, insulated workspace would allow mechanics to perform teardown and repairs without occupying limited shop space.
Commissioner Rosknecht moved to approve the request; Commissioner Dirr seconded. Commissioners discussed the building’s electrical service and department needs. The motion passed by voice vote.
Purcell said he is coordinating with the utility (MDU) on a gas connection and will proceed within the $75,000 not-to-exceed amount. The county will proceed with procurement and installation under Buildings and Grounds oversight.
