The Harnett County Board of Commissioners on March 17 approved an installment financing contract to fund the construction, equipping and furnishing of Flatwoods Middle School and adopted a related resolution, according to a meeting recap read by Desiree Patrick, a county staff member.
The approvals were part of a bundle of actions the board took at the public meeting, including acceptance of state performance-management funding for the Harnett County Health Department, authorization for the Department of Social Services to use remaining American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for an upfit and furniture purchase, approval to apply for a $20,000 North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs grant for veteran services, and execution of a contract with Martin Starnes and Associates CPAs PA to complete the county audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025.
The board also approved a pepper-spray policy for non-law-enforcement employees and a work authorization request from Harnett Regional Jackpot to begin pre-NEPA studies. Two separate text-amendment cases—Plan2501-0002 and Plan2502-0001—were the subjects of public hearings and were approved, the recital said. A public hearing on the installment financing for Flatwoods Middle School drew two citizens; six citizens spoke during the public-comment period earlier in the meeting.
County budget amendments were approved during the county manager’s report. The board adopted a resolution requesting that the North Carolina Department of Transportation add several roads to the secondary road system. The meeting recap noted there was no new business or closed session.
