Sylvania Board recognizes student-athletes and performing teams from Southview and Northview

The Sylvania Board of Education used its recognition portion of the March 17 meeting to honor student achievements from across the district, focusing on academic scores and athletic and performing arts successes.
Southview High School
The board recognized Southview students who scored 26 or higher on the ACT and presented awards to members of the Southview boys basketball team and coaching staff. Coach Springs was named cardinal-division coach of the year for 2025, and Jaron (Jeron/Juwan) Witcher was recognized as the NLL player of the year for the cardinal division. The board called each listed player and coach to the podium to receive certificates.
Dance and other athletics
Southview’s dance team, which attended the OASSA state and UDA national championships, and Northview’s dance and cheer teams were recognized for recent competition results. Northview swimmer/diver Madeline Horton was noted as the 2025 OASSA state diving champion and a first-team all-NLL selection in the Buckeye division. Northview’s dance team placed fourth in hip hop and sixth in both pom and contemporary lyrical at the 2025 OASSA State Dance Championships; coaches and team members were called forward and received certificates.
The board applauded the students and coaches and noted that recognition is one of the most enjoyable parts of the role. Certificates were presented and the board recessed the recognition segment to continue the regular meeting.
