Franklin City Council on March 17 approved annual tax abatement compliance reports for a large group of local projects after a review by the Economic Development Commission (EDC).
Community Development Specialist Dana Monson reported that the city has a total of 55 abatements under review and that the council was presented with about 32 at the meeting. Monson said the EDC reviewed the initial group on March 11 and found the items to be in order.
EDC representative Matt Taylor, who serves on the commission, described the reviews as straightforward: “These were probably the easiest to actually confirm and there was no issues. Wages were way up.” Taylor and Monson told council members many companies had recovered from COVID impacts, with some reporting higher wages even where employee counts had fallen.
Monson read a list of the compliance items into the record (the packet included identifiers such as C2025-01 through C2025-55 and company names) and recommended approval. Council moved and seconded a collective vote to approve the items presented; the motion passed with no recorded opposition.
Monson and Taylor said most projects are on track, some abatement terms are expiring and companies have transitioned to the full tax roll. The council did not direct additional follow-up for the items that were read and approved during the meeting.
