Commission approves transfers to road-maintenance fund; public-works staff complete Sandpoint landfill cell and release county road atlas

The commission approved two budget actions to increase funds available for road maintenance and repairs and received several public-works updates, including completion of Sandpoint Landfill Cell 6 construction and the release of a county road atlas.
Public-works staff requested a transfer of $1,880,000 from the construction fund into the road-maintenance fund to complete micro-seal projects, intersection improvements and other scheduled maintenance this fiscal year; the commission approved the transfer by motion and roll-call. Staff also requested an additional $2,000,000 for the road-maintenance fund focused on reclamation/resurfacing work for Ferguson and Calvania roads, road segments serving industry and high-traffic areas; commissioners approved that request by roll call.
Public-works staff reported ongoing tire-removal activity at the potash mines site (a multi-month effort to remove an estimated tens of thousands of tires; the most recent monthly tally showed 8,720 tires removed that month and about 16,700 removed in total to date). Staff also said Sandpoint Landfill Cell 6 construction was completed, NMED certification received, and the cell is now in operation with the required cover materials being placed.
Staff distributed a new county road index and atlas that lists county road names, corresponding county road numbers, mileage and road type (paved/unpaved) and said the materials will be available to the public and on the county website. Commissioners approved the budget transfers and received the public-works status reports.
