Wareham schedules kindergarten registration; district touts outreach and free materials

The Wareham School Committee heard updates on kindergarten registration and early childhood outreach planned for incoming kindergarten families.

Principal (Wareham Elementary School) said kindergarten registration will be held next week and that the district and community partners have stepped up outreach, including puppet shows, a kindergarten rally in June and coordinated events with local preschools. The principal said the district purchased 300 blue canvas bags that will include books and literacy resources to distribute at registration and the rally.

The principal said the district has run pre-registration Zoom sessions and expects robust turnout, noting “we're hoping to have about at least 90 to a hundred” incoming kindergartners. She asked families to bring original birth certificates and immunization records; Nurse Braley confirmed immunization records are a state requirement and noted exemptions can be requested for religious reasons.

Community and logistics

Administrators said the registration nights coincide with PTA book fairs and local preschool events to make it easier for families to get paperwork done and receive community resources. The Children and Families Connection/CFCE council, local preschools and the Friends of the Library were listed as partners in outreach and literacy programming.
