Milton council ratifies $160,000 cap for two replacement police vehicles on state contract

The Milton City Council unanimously approved the purchase of two replacement police vehicles Monday, authorizing the mayor to sign documents for up to $160,000.
Chief Hernandez described the purchase as part of the department's regular replacement amortization schedule and said the city used a Washington State contract to secure V6 EcoBoost engines at favorable prices. "This is our normal replacement amortization schedule and we are due to replace 2 vehicles," Chief Hernandez said.
Council Member Peretti moved the measure and Mayor Pro Tem Portim Whitaker seconded; the motion carried 6-0. Council and staff said the purchase is already budgeted in the 2025 capital plan. Council Member White asked which vehicles would be retired; staff said one of the two Ford F-150 trucks and two Dodge Chargers are slated for recycle.
Chief Hernandez also said the department expects smaller-stature officers and carbon-footprint goals influenced the move to Ford Explorer-type vehicles rather than a fleet of larger trucks. No public opposition was recorded at the meeting.
