Kahulavi commission urges Ways and Means to fund Kihei CIP site

"The commission stands, supports this measure, and we are asking once again as we come every year, looking for funding for our CIP project at a Kihei site," Dehope said. He said the project would consolidate the commission’s main office next to Bridal Harbor in Kihei, create a consolidated place to continue work on Kahulavi, and generate revenue to support Kahulavi work and broader economic development in the South Kihei corridor.
Dehope also said the commission is prohibited from commercial activities on Kahulavi island but that the Kihei property could be used to generate revenue. The committee did not take final action on the item during the hearing; the measure remained on the committee’s agenda for later decision making.
