The Mobile City Council voted March 18 to rezone the property at 5301 Moffett Road from B2 to B3.
A council member who led the discussion said developers and neighborhood representatives worked with city engineers to address stormwater and runoff concerns. That speaker said the proposed redevelopment would include a large detention pond and grading changes; engineers estimated the work would provide about a 10% improvement in existing runoff conditions for nearby properties.
"Doing this development will actually provide some improvement. It's not going to solve other problems, but it will provide about a 10% improvement in what they're already experiencing," the council member said during the floor discussion. The speaker thanked residents, the developer's engineer, and city staff for negotiating the mitigation measures.
After discussion the rezoning motion was called, and the council voted in favor by voice vote. The ordinance was introduced and will be filed in the council record per standard process; per council rules the introduction was followed by the one-week layover for new ordinances as required elsewhere on the agenda.
