Planning director urges annual set‑aside to pay for next comprehensive plan

Merrill (Planning director) said the last comprehensive plan in 2020 cost a little over $78,000 and estimated the 2030 plan could cost about $125,000. "There are no grants available for this, so it's totally on the town to pay for these things," Merrill said, and suggested putting aside roughly $25,000 per year as a way to spread the cost.
The planning director said lacking an approved comprehensive plan can limit eligibility for some grant programs, and advised the council that setting funds aside annually would keep the town competitive for grant applications. The council did not approve a set‑aside at the workshop but acknowledged the planning office's request and will consider it in the budget process.
