The West Warwick Town Council approved a request March 18 to purchase a replacement LiveScan fingerprint station for the police department at a quoted cost of $25,987.
Police staff told the council the existing LiveScan system is beyond its service life and that the vendor, Thales LiveScan, is the sole-source provider of compatible hardware and software. The quoted purchase includes two additional years of warranty after the first year and customer support. Staff said the purchase would be funded from the police department’s detail expense account.
Councilors heard that, during the current equipment outage, officers had to transport arrestees to a neighboring department to process fingerprints, creating an operational and officer-safety inconvenience. Staff said lead time for the replacement is estimated at three to five months.
The council approved the purchase by voice vote without recorded roll-call.
