Cobb County projects 2% tax-digest increase as housing market slows

The Cobb County Assessor's Office told jurisdictions in late February that the county’s 2025 tax digest is projected to increase by about 2 percent, but officials emphasized the residential real-estate market is slowing compared with recent years.
Stephen White, former chief appraiser and now support services director for the Cobb County Assessor’s Office, said, “the increase in the tax digest that was submitted last year to this year is about 2%.” He and Christine Stinchcomb, the office’s new chief appraiser, presented the projection on Cobb TV and to local jurisdictions to help them plan budgets and rollback rate estimates.
The office’s slides show several signs of a market that is still rising but decelerating. The county’s average sales price is about $500,000, roughly $20,000 higher than the prior year. Active listings rose from about 17,000 in January 2021 to about 35,000 in January…
