Sponsor Senator Rodriguez described the bill as authorizing “the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to create a new specialty license plate for Miami Dade College,” and said, “The annual use fee for the plate is $25. Proceeds of the sale of the Miami Dade College specialty license plate will be distributed to the Miami Dade College Foundation … to fund student scholarships. The DHSMV estimates programming and implementation of the plate will cost $8,280.”
The committee considered Amendment 922794, offered by Senator Desigle, which “creates a specialty license plate for St. Pete College,” and a subsequent substitute amendment that, the committee recorded, “clarifies some of the percentages for administrative costs, marketing promotion, student scholarships, and then student success initiative.” The substitute amendment was adopted by voice vote and the bill as amended was advanced.
