County accepts two Idaho Department of Lands grants totaling $205,000 for hazardous fuels treatment

Bonner County Emergency Management Director Bob Bauer presented two memoranda of understanding with the Idaho Department of Lands under the Bonfire Program and the Board of County Commissioners approved both grants.
The first MOU awards $100,000 to support hazardous fuels treatment associated with the Scattered Lands Phase 4 project; the grant requires a $10,000 cost share to be met by landowner contributions or private corporate funds, Bauer said. County staff reported the award is at no cost to the county.
The second MOU awards $105,000 for a Dry Fuels project in the Clark Fork area. Bauer told commissioners there are no cost shares associated with that funding. Both MOUs were reviewed and approved by auditing, risk and legal.
Why it matters: The grants support hazardous fuels reduction projects that reduce wildfire risk in county wildland‑urban interface areas and are part of the statewide Bonfire Program.
Both motions were approved by roll call vote.
