Williams County to host ice fishing derby Feb. 20 with giveaways and volunteer support

Williams County parks staff told the Park Board the county—s ice fishing derby is scheduled for Feb. 20 and will include giveaways and volunteer support from community organizations.
Staff said United Sportsmen Williston will provide most of the volunteers and that the group had secured donations that would allow organizers to give away about 200 fishing poles, buckets and T-shirts for children. "Rather than doing that raffle, we're just gonna as soon as the kid shows up ... we're instructing them to come, like, register and check-in, and then we're just giving them all," the presenter said.
The event will begin at 10 a.m. and run through 4 p.m.; lunch will be provided beginning at about 11:45 a.m., and the Blacktail Dam Association will serve hot beverages. Staff said volunteers will rove the site on four-wheelers to assist anglers and that organizers hope families can stay as long as weather permits.
No board action was required for the event update; organizers asked the board to note the date and staffing plan.
