Commissioners approve gas-meter relocation after reconsideration; change order totals about $4,026

Miami County commissioners on March 5 approved a change order to relocate a gas meter and install additional gas-supply piping after the gas utility (Atmos) required a different meter location.
Frank Burrow, with Miami County EMS, told commissioners Atmos declined the initial planned meter location and dictated placement that required 42 additional feet of 1.5-inch pipe and 22 feet of below-grade 2-inch steel pipe. Burrow said the change order cost totaled $4,026.09.
Commissioner Vaughn moved to approve the change order, seconded by Commissioner Bridal; the board initially approved the measure 4–1. Later in the meeting Commissioner Robert Scripps said he had voted incorrectly on the earlier motion and moved to reconsider. The motion to reconsider carried unanimously. On the re-vote the board approved the change order unanimously; the final approval was moved by Commissioner Vaughn and seconded by Commissioner Pickering.
The board recorded no amendment to the change order during the meeting. Commissioners directed staff to finalize the change order paperwork and to return to the board if costs change.
"Atmos came out and decided that the initial location of the meter was not appropriate or approved by them," Frank Burrow said, describing the decision that triggered the additional piping. "That total has come to $4,026.09."
