The Department of Health had requested an amendment to include an appropriation and FTEs if the Legislature wanted the department to lead the work; the committee instead placed SHPDA as the implementing agency and left the appropriation blank for committee insertion.
The committee’s motion passed with amendments and technical changes; the committee report will include the blank appropriation language for SHPDA to implement and a note that SHPDA may contract for services. Supporters told the committee that statewide estimates show significant prevalence and economic burden and urged action to collect data to guide resource allocation.
