Contractor outlined trim replacement and cornice restoration for Williamson County Courthouse

David Crowthal of Lee Restoration told the DRC the project at 305 Main Street (Williamson County Courthouse) will match and replace about 100 linear feet of damaged trim profiles, restore built‑in gutters and repaint cornices and dental moldings. He said crews inspected the building from lifts and plan to repair bubbled paint areas with epoxy where appropriate and replace wood elements damaged beyond repair with matching species and profiles.
City staff member Emily summarized the courthouse’s National Register description (1858 Greek Revival courthouse with a two‑story portico and pediment clock) and described the proposed scope: replace horizontal gable metal roof returns, restore built‑in gutters at north and south cornices, prepare and repaint cornices, rakes, fascia, soffits and dental molding, and replace damaged wood trim matching species and profiles.
Commissioners asked about materials and repair methods; the contractor said some pieces required custom knives and thicker stock (over 3 inches) and that epoxy repair would be used where feasible. Commissioners supported the approach and commended the contractor for on‑site inspection and careful matching of historic profiles.
The DRC advised the applicant to proceed with documentation and to return with material specifications and mockups as required for a COA review.
