Troy City Council on March 10 approved a bid waiver and a capital fund amendment to buy a six-passenger electric cart from Club Car for a total estimated price of $13,050.
The cart will be used to assist seniors and people with disabilities moving between parking lots and Gene Stein Park during city events, Recreation Director Brian Gould told council.
Council members discussed whether the city would need more than one cart. Gould said the plan is to start with one and return to the council if additional vehicles are needed. Council member Chamberlain Kranga moved the resolution; Council member Chanda seconded. The motion carried on a roll-call vote with all members present voting yes.
Gould said the purchase will use ‘‘true national account pricing’’ and asked the council to approve a budget amendment to the capital fund for the same amount. Council members noted frequent use of rented carts during Troy Days and thanked staff for considering seniors’ needs.
The council approved the bid waiver, purchase and budget amendment as printed in the meeting packet and carried the motion unanimously.
The approved cart is expected to be used at upcoming city events; staff said they will return to council if additional carts are required.
