Council approves consent agenda; accepts written comments and gifts

The consent agenda (items listed in the meeting packet as 4b–4n) included: approval of the Feb. 19 regular meeting minutes and the Feb. 26 study-session minutes; the 2025 Tulip Time Festival contract; a 2025 Tulip Time fireworks request; two redevelopment liquor license requests (one for "Sure" and one for Dobbs Pizzeria); two public hearings set for PA 198 speculative tax abatement for Electric Steel LLC at 72 West 60 Fourth Street and another at 717 East 20 Fourth Street; a Fourth of July fireworks permit for Great Lakes Fireworks; declaration of surplus police operations bicycles; approval to purchase a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe pursuit vehicle for the Police Patrol Division; acceptance of the November financial reports; acceptance of a grant from The Recycling Partnership; and approval to purchase cardio gym equipment for the Collin Park fire station.
The motion to approve the agenda and consent items was moved by Council Member Freeman and supported by Council Member Byrd. Clerk Brenda called a roll that recorded each council member voting yes: Byrd, Freeman, Raymond, Corbin, Soule, Rowan, Shea, Scholteis and Mayor Nathan Box. The presiding officer declared the motion carried.
Council also voted to accept written public comments into the record. Council Member Shea moved to accept the written comments; Council Member Freeman supported the motion. The voice vote was recorded as in favor with no opposition.
The meeting record shows the city accepted the following gifts for departmental accounts: $250 from Hope College for the Department of Public Safety Honor Guard program and $190.86 from the Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area (Pacino Wehrmeier Fund) for the World War II Memorial Garden at Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Council Member Rowan moved to accept the donations, with support from Council Member Soule; the motion carried on a voice vote.
A final procedural motion to adjourn was moved by Council Member Freeman, supported by Council Member Byrd, and the meeting adjourned by voice vote.
