Catoosa County’s career-education program awards CTSO teachers $500 each for competition travel

CATOOSA COUNTY, Ga. — Catoosa County Public Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTAE) leadership presented $500 travel grants to Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) teachers and described the Career Academy (CCA) as a self-supporting funder that raised the money.
Mark Pierce, CTA director, said the CCA’s CEO Marissa Bauer and the CCA board raised funds to support CTAE programs without using general district dollars. “The CCA is 100% for their programs, their supplies, self supporting,” Pierce said. He announced checks of $500 for each CTSO teacher to help with travel costs for competitions.
Pierce said the CCA had purchased a vehicle to reduce teachers’ need to rent cars or use personal vehicles on CTSO trips and that the district hopes to grow that fleet. He asked CTSO teachers present to come forward to receive checks and listed teachers and programs that would receive the grants.
The CTA director noted many CTSO trips have historically required teachers and students to fundraise for travel, and the $500 grants were intended to reduce that burden. The superintendent and district leaders praised CTAE staff and principals for supporting career education.
Officials did not provide the total amount granted across all CTSO teachers, nor did they state whether the grants will be recurring. The CTA director framed the support as part of an ongoing effort to expand career education funding and resources.
