Nate Mac, director of the Downtown Development Authority, briefed the council on the recent downtown carnival and the farmers market during the March 10 meeting.
Mac said the weather was “a little bit chilly” but the carnival “went pretty well,” featuring five vendors, four food trucks, live music, a mask-making station and sidewalk chalk. He thanked DDA board members Tanya Nevitt, Melissa Borgman and Jill Scapoletti for helping with setup. Mac said the farmers market the same day was “not as busy as we had hoped” but that organizers will continue the effort.
Council members responded with suggestions. Council member Doak proposed exploring a complementary adult-oriented event after the children’s portion of future carnivals so local restaurants and bars could participate; Council member Gabel praised the sidewalk chalk activity and suggested adults with artistic skill could be encouraged to take part.
Mac said he expected to make an additional announcement about downtown activity later in the week but did not provide details.
Why it matters: Downtown events support small businesses and community engagement. The DDA’s planning and volunteer support shape the city’s event calendar and downtown foot traffic.
Ending: Mac invited questions after his report and the council moved on to public-safety reports.
