Gateway board compiles questions for AIU, presses state on funding formula and student records

Board members expressed frustration that nearby districts received large adequacy‑gap payments while Gateway received none. Board members cited reported award totals discussed in a circulated article: Woodland Hills $15,000,000; Penn Hills $7,000,000; McKeesport $23,000,000; and “many other districts” receiving funds. A district speaker said payment amounts were broken into installment pairs and that the state has not yet filled all gaps in its funding approach.
“I don't know how they came up with those analyses,” Ritter said about the state formula. Board members requested better transparency on the funding formula and asked staff to collect district demographic and fiscal inputs that feed the state calculation.
The board also discussed whether the compiled AIU questions should be pursued directly with state representatives if answers are not forthcoming through the AIU process. Staff said the AIU meetings often include a limited number of legislators and that the board could pursue follow‑up directly with influential legislators if needed.
No formal vote was taken; the board agreed to collect questions and forward them to the AIU for consideration.
