Board delays social studies monitoring report to allow inclusion of forward-exam data

The Verona Area School District board voted to move the social studies monitoring report from the April meeting to July 21, 2025, to allow staff time to rewrite performance indicators and include forward-exam data.
Superintendent Dr. Clarity and staff explained that last year’s indicator for the social studies results policy referenced a curriculum adoption process that has been completed, meaning new indicators are now required. Staff proposed using forward-exam data aligned to social studies standards as part of the indicators, but that exam results would not be ready in time for the scheduled April report. “That data would not be really available until, like, maybe into June,” a staff presenter said.
Board members discussed the sequence: the board must approve new indicators before a monitoring report that uses those indicators, and the indicators require time for review. A motion to move the social studies monitoring report to July 21, 2025, was made and seconded; the motion passed by a voice vote with all members recorded as voting in favor in the meeting transcript.
Board members and staff said a workshop scheduled that evening would help clarify district results-policy goals and whether standardized-test metrics remain part of those indicators. Staff said they would bring proposed indicators to the board for review before the monitoring report.
