Board authorizes superintendent to withdraw Verona from Dane County School Consortium and to support dissolution if needed

The Verona Area School District board voted to authorize Superintendent Dr. Clarity to withdraw the district from the Dane County School Consortium interagency agreement and separately authorized the superintendent to vote in favor of dissolving the consortium should that motion come to a two-thirds vote of member districts.
Dr. Clarity told the board that Monona Grove School District, the consortium’s fiscal manager, informed members about nine or 10 months ago that it would not continue serving as fiscal manager. The superintendent said districts were offered the fiscal-agency role and that no district had agreed to take it on. “No district is has been willing to take that responsibility on and many, beginning approximately two weeks ago began the process of removing themselves from the Dane County School Consortium,” Dr. Clarity said.
The superintendent recommended withdrawal and said the district can continue youth-apprenticeship work independently or in partnership with other providers such as Southern Wisconsin Workplace Development. He told the board the district also employs a career-technical educator coordinator (identified in the presentation as Jenna Johnson) who is embedded in the high school and able to expand local apprenticeship supports.
Board members asked clarifying questions about operational impacts and ongoing partnerships. Jenny (a district staff member who spoke during the report) said collaboration with neighboring districts and shared staffing will continue even if the consortium dissolves.
The board took two recorded procedural votes by voice: first to authorize Dr. Clarity to withdraw the district from the interagency agreement, and second to authorize her to vote in favor of dissolving the consortium in the event member districts seek dissolution. Both motions were approved by voice vote with no opposition recorded in the meeting transcript.
The board’s actions give the superintendent authority to act at the consortium level; formal dissolution still requires a two-thirds vote of all consortium member boards.
