Depoe Bay OKs $17,800 Electrical Upgrade at City Hall; IT Security Work to Follow

The Depoe Bay City Council approved a $17,800 bid from Greenlight Electric Group to remove outdated wiring at city hall and prepare the building for subsequent IT and security upgrades.
Council members who spoke during the item described tangled, half-functioning wiring dating from the mid-20th century and said removing it would simplify future security and firewall upgrades. Staff told the council that the wiring removal is primarily a physical/electrical job; after that work is complete, the city's IT contractor will implement software upgrades and firewall protections.
The motion to accept the Greenlight Electric bid was moved and seconded and passed on voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff said later work will include replacing interior LED fixtures and ceiling fans; that separate lighting project will return to council with details and a higher cost because it includes more fixtures and ceiling work.
Councilors and staff emphasized the distinction between physical wiring removal and the separate IT-security work: the bid covers removal and cleanup of legacy cabling and preparation for the IT contractor to install new hardware and software protections. Staff said the vendor has experience coordinating with IT contractors and that security improvements will follow the physical upgrade.
The city will proceed with the Greenlight Electric contract and return any required documentation to the council as part of normal procurement reporting.
