City approves three contracts and purchase orders for wastewater plant supplies and construction draw

The Georgetown City Council approved three procurement items related to wastewater operations and the city’s wastewater treatment plant expansion at the Feb. 24 meeting.
Council authorized a sole-source purchase from DesoTech for 40,000 pounds of activated carbon ($55,535) and a unit-bid purchase from Xylem Water Solutions for resin (370 cubic feet, $225,554). Both are budgeted chemical/supply items used in the plant’s treatment processes and were presented as necessary for compliance with discharge permit monitoring. Council also approved a $321,939.65 pay application (pay app 46) to Judy Construction, the contractor on the new plant expansion; that payment brings the project to approximately 80.86% complete in the engineer’s progress accounting.
City staff said the March 31 contractual milestone for beneficial use will need to be extended because the contractor will claim inclement-weather days and some remaining wiring and commissioning tasks remain. The city engineer said staff plan to provide a single revised target date at the next meeting and will not repeatedly extend the target. Staff said they have begun issuing availability requests so sewer service projects can proceed while finish work on the plant continues.
Council approved all three items by voice vote; specific roll-call tallies were not recorded in the meeting minutes for those motions. City staff said no additional operations personnel are expected for the expanded plant; they identified a short list of start-up equipment (for example, a scissor lift and small loader) and said those items can be procured from existing budgeted funds.
