Council renames Ed Davis Park 'Boston Community Park' after Parks & Rec recommendation

The Georgetown City Council voted to rename Ed Davis Park as Boston Community Park on March 10, adopting the parks board’s recommendation after a monthslong public process.
Parks & Recreation Director Drew summarized a community petition with nearly 200 signatures, an August public forum and a board-approved renaming policy adopted in September. The Parks & Rec Board unanimously recommended changing the name to Boston Community Park and suggested a smaller sign below the new park sign reading “Home of the Ed Davis Learning Center” to preserve recognition of the building at the site.
Councilmember Stone moved and the council approved a resolution accepting the recommendation; the clerk read the resolution’s text into the record. The council approved the resolution by voice vote and the clerk recorded the motion as passing. Parks staff said records of the petition, voting and the Parks & Rec board proceedings are on file and that the name-change policy will guide any future renaming requests.
Parks staff emphasized the board sought public input before recommending the rename and noted that as a city-owned park the final action required council approval. The council’s resolution sets the park’s legal name to Boston Community Park and asks staff to implement signage updates.
