McMinnville joins regional effort to expand access to the Yamhill Rivers

Olivia Rovang, a destination development coordinator with Visit McMinnville, and Augusta Stockman of the Willamette Valley Visitors Association briefed the McMinnville City Council on a regional effort to develop safe, sustainable access to the north, south and main-stem Yamhill Rivers, plus Mill Creek and Willamina Creek.
The project team told council members the Yamhill Rivers system encompasses roughly 120 river miles and that organizers convened a steering committee last winter to scope possible access sites, create maps and gather community input.
The effort grew out of tourism and local government interest in family-friendly, year-round river recreation and aligns with the city’s Parks and Recreation open-space (PROS) plan recommendation to reconstruct Kiwanis Marine Park and connect McMinnville to the South Yamhill River. “We’re really excited to have the opportunity to share a little more about some of the work we’ve been doing,” Olivia Rovang said during the presentation.
