The Columbia Falls City Council unanimously adopted Resolution 19‑37 to adopt Annex E of the Western Montana Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, a step city staff said is required to retain eligibility for federal mitigation funds.
City staff explained FEMA has approved the regional plan and individual jurisdictions in the county must adopt the annex so the county can finalize the document and return it to the state and FEMA. City officials said adoption opens the city to future federal disaster-mitigation funding tied to the plan.
A motion to adopt Resolution 19‑37 was made, seconded and approved by roll call. Councilors Shepherd, King, Piper, Price, Robinson and Mayor Barnhart recorded ayes.
Council members asked no substantive questions during the floor discussion; staff said the county emergency manager requested city adoption to complete countywide compliance.
The resolution as adopted applies Annex E (hazard mitigation) to the city’s planning documents and does not by itself authorize any specific capital expenditures.
