The St. Louis City Board of Aldermen on March 13 approved posting a legislative assistant position for the Fifth Ward and set a 30-day application window so the incoming alderperson can interview and hire after being sworn in.
The action came during a short meeting in which the board first approved minutes from its Feb. 6 meeting and then moved to the personnel item. The board voted 3-0 to approve the Feb. 6 minutes; the motion to post the Fifth Ward legislative assistant was then approved without objection after a request to invoke previous roll was sustained.
President Green said the posting is intended to allow the incoming alderperson to "hit the ground running" after being sworn in. Board members discussed timing and posting length; a board member suggested keeping the position open for 30 days because the new alderperson is not expected to be sworn in until about April 15. Director Angracia asked how long the committee wanted the job posted and noted the current practice of having Assistant Clerk Rogers receive resumes instead of routing applicants through personnel.
The board directed staff to proceed with a 30-day posting and to have Assistant Clerk Rogers receive resumes. The board noted that final hiring cannot occur until the incoming Fifth Ward alderperson is sworn in and selects a candidate.
With no other substantive agenda items, the board moved and seconded to adjourn and ended the meeting.
